The Argelès-sur-Mer concentration camp was an internment camp established in early February 1939 on the territory of the French commune of Argelès-sur-Mer for Spanish Republican refugees.

There were lots of pregnant mothers in this camp. All of them were helped by Elisabeth Eidenbenz, a nurse who founded The Elna Maternity Home, a hospital for giving birth.

Thanks to Elisabeth, 600 children saved their lives instead of dying in the Argelers camp.
